Arrest of a U.S. Citizen

If you are aware that a U.S. citizen has been arrested in the states of Jalisco, Colima, Aguascalientes or Nayarit, please ask the authorities to notify the U.S. Consulate Guadalajara immediately.

The U.S. Consulate Guadalajara will work to help protect the person and ensure fair treatment.

The U.S. Consulate Guadalajara will also visit the prisoner; provide a list of local attorneys and information about the local legal process; and notify family and friends.

More information is available on the U.S. State Department website: "Assistance to U.S. Citizens Arrested Abroad" and "Prisoner Transfer Treaties."
